On Thursday, Nov. 17th, Ohio APCO reported that Governor John R. Kasich has officially announced that Ohio will “opt-in” to FirstNet. The announcement was sent November 15th via letter to Mike Poth, CEO of the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet). This announcement makes Ohio the 33rd opt-in to date of the FirstNet program – four US territories (Guam, American Samoa, the US Virgin Islands, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands).

For more information about the value FirstNet will bring to public safety, see www.firstnet.gov

FirstNet was created as an independent authority within the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) for the purpose of establishing, operating, and maintaining an interoperable public safety broadband network. To fulfill these objectives, Congress allotted $7 billion and 20 MHz of valuable radio spectrum to build the network. In March 2017, the authority board created a public-private partnership with AT&T to build out FirstNet.
