At 11 A.M. on Monday February 22, 2015 Pennsauken units were dispatched for a vehicle fire at Route 130 and Rt. 90.  Crews arrived to find a tanker truck carrying 8000 gallons of fuel overturned and on fire on the entrance ramp of Rt. 90 near the base of the Betsy Ross Bridge.

The driver was able to get out of the vehicle with assistance of first-arriving police units.

Fire Incident Command called for Haz Mat and Foam units from around the County.  In addition, a Task Force box alarm was requested with a Strike Team of ambulances as crews began to evacuate the residential area around the fire scene. A total of 30 homes were evacuated.

Crews secured water supplies and stretched lines to extinguish brush fires in the area. Lines were also stretched as a precaution to protect the structures.

Crews on the highway worked to control the fuel run off. Haz Mat crews set up and went into operation with foam.

The fire was placed under control at 12:30.  Crews pumped the rest of the fuel from the vehicle.

One firefighter was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The truck driver was also treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and released.

The freeway ramp remained closed until an environmental and structural inspection was completed.

Pennsauken Police Captain Michael Probasco told local news channel NBC10 that the truck overturnedwhile its driver navigated the ramp; for some reason, he lost control sending the truck into a guardrail before landing on Delaware River Port Authority land. The impact ruptured the tractor-trailer's tank and the gasoline began to burn.
