Smoldering Warehouse Fire in San Angelo, Texas

A warehouse fire in San Angelo, Texas smolders days after the February 27, 2013 blaze was controlled.  After one million gallons of water were poured onto the structure, fire was still active in some areas.  The fire took place at the Lone Star Moving Co. warehouse, from an undetermined cause.

Originally called in as a grass fire about 11 PM, the incident generated a three-alarm response that challenged eight companies throughout the night.   Firefighters chose to fence the building and let it burn because of a collapse hazard in the basement, which was not accessible to responders.  Among other hazards faced by San Angelo Fire Dept. firefighters were live rounds of gun ammunition stored in the basement, which would occasionally fire off.  Crews kept a firewatch on the scene until full extinguishment was achieved.
