Emergency Communications Focus at 2012 Counter Terror Expo US

Date: 2011-10-21

Natural disasters and acts of terrorism have shown that there is no simple solution to solve the communications problems that plague law enforcement, firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical personnel.  Recognizing the need for an overarching strategy to help coordinate and guide such efforts, Congress directed the Department of Homeland Security to develop the first National Emergency Communications Plan (NECP). The purpose of the NECP is to promote the ability of emergency response providers and relevant government officials to continue to communicate in the event of natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other man-made disasters and to ensure, accelerate, and attain interoperable emergency communications nationwide.

To strengthen emergency communications capabilities nationwide, the NECP focuses on technology, coordination, governance, planning, usage, training and exercises at all levels of government.  Join the Counter Terror Expo US as we explore this issue and others in an effort to help increase the critical collaboration between our nation’s counter-terror communities.  Debuting May 16-17, 2012 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, Counter Terror Expo US provides a unique blend of conference and exposition, making it the ideal venue to help foster collaboration and gain a better understanding of the solutions available to detect, defend against and reduce future risks.

This first-of-its-kind expo and conference will bring together our nation’s complete counter-terror community including: federal and state agencies, Department of Defense (DoD), police and first responders along with those responsible for securing the nation’s vital infrastructure in both the private and public sector to bolster collaboration in counter-terror efforts.  Counter Terror Expo US will gather more than 150 internationally recognized experts to debate the issues we face, define operational strategies and to help shape future policy.  The event will address some of the most important topics impacting the security world including cyber security and electronic terrorism, emergency services and communications, global counter-terrorism and critical national infrastructure protection.
