Nationwide Moment of Radio Silence Proposed for 9/11/2011

Veteran 9-1-1 Communications Center Manager and 9-1-1 Magazine's Communications Management columnist has proposed to Public Safety Communications nationwide that a moemnt of silence be held thic coming Sept. 11th in honor of tragic Line of Duty Deaths than occurred to public safety personnel that day in their response to the terrible events perpetuated by terrorists on 9/11.
 
"As we approach the 10th anniversary of the attack on America, it occurred to me that some special remembrance was in order," Furey said. "I started the ball rolling on this in North Carolina, but it's something that we can get going nationwide. At 0959 hours - the time most closely associated with the collapse of the first tower at the WTC - I am asking that all public safety agencies sound an alert tone and request a moment of silence in memory of the brave Americans who lost their lives that day. It doesn't cost anything to participate - and some folks do this on the 11th already. But in my mind it would be special if in the few weeks we have left before that day if we could organize a grassroots effort to take this nationwide on the tenth anniversary."
 

Furey added, in emails sent to 9-1-1 dispatch/telecommunicator list servers: "If you are with me on this, please bring the request/suggestion to the attention of the powers that be in your jurisdiction. This is the largest LODD incident in history. Let's take the time to collectively honor those brave public servants - and citizens, as well - who gave their lives that day."
