A Holiday Helping Hand in Long Island
Wednesday afternoon, December 23, 2009, at 1:00 PM in the parking lot of Suffolk County Police Academy in Brentwood, NY, families and individual’s in need receive a welcome gift on behalf of county and state law enforcement.
Lieutenant. Bob Donohue of the Suffolk County Police Department said this fund drive started last year as a joint effort between the Suffolk County Police Department and the New York State Troopers. They joined together to raise monies for hams and turkeys, bread, and coloring books for the more needy at holiday time. Last year they gave out 500 hams and turkeys in Yaphank, and it’s sucess lead to Brentwood this year with 600 hams and turkeys! This year’s event cost $9600.00 that came from Police officers raising funds and via corporate donations. In bitter, windy, 32-degree weather people waited wrapped in blankets for a turkey or ham. There was plenty to go around for all. Photos by Wayne Carrington
