SWIFTWATER AWARENESS VIDEO
The Los Angeles County Office of Education has released a new edition of its popular flood channel safety videos, No Way Out, and Danger! Debris Flow, along with an accompanying educational guide. Ideal for public education, the 15-minute videos dramatically highlight the dangers of flash floods and the challenges of swiftwater rescue through archival footage, media clips, interviews with public safety personnel. The affecting stories of teenage Adam Bischoff, who drowned when he fell into the rain-swollen flood control channel, and of father and son John and Matthew Henderson, who drowned in a murky debris flow in the L.A. foothills, give the video an affecting and vitally important edge. Although specific to the Los Angeles area, the videos contain enough general information to be valuable to any agency with an urban or rural swiftwater flooding concern.
