APC'S WEB-EMPOWERED TECHNOLOGY
American Power Conversion (APC), which first introduced Web manageability to the power protection industry more than a year ago, has announced that it is taking this technology to the next level with its Web-empowered tool, APC Assistant online. Unlike Web-management tools, which deliver information only from the individual uninterruptible power supply's (UPS) power management software, Web-empowered technology, like that found in APC Assistant online, enables corporate IT managers and small businesses to obtain UPS information directly from APC via the internet. Using WebAgent, APC's Web-based UPS management plug-in, coupled with APC Assistant online, IT managers and small businesses can troubleshoot UPS problems, identify and obtain newly available power management software upgrades, identify and order the appropriate replacement battery cartridge in addition to receiving step-by-step battery replacement instructions, register for UPS warranty and be notified when product warranty expires and receive specific information from APC's Web page pertinent to the user's environment.

LIBERTY 2000 MAX FROM C&D TECHNOLOGIES

C&D TECHNOLOGIES is enhancing the Liberty® Series 2000 with the Maximizer in response to industry demand for better performance, trouble free VRLA (valve regulated lead-acid) batteries as an even more reliable standby energy source. The Liberty 2000 MAX is fitted with the Maximizer, a system consisting of a safety vent, flame arrester, and catalyst. C&D TECHNOLOGIES is the only company that currently offers this technology which reduces the potential for dry-out, a leading cause of VRLA failures, through the catalytic conversion of hydrogen and oxygen into water. Further benefits of the Maximizer include reduced rate of positive plate corrosion, lower impedance, reduced float current, increased cell capacity and lower operating costs through longer useful life.

MOTOROLA MOSCAD FOR FIRE DISPATCH

The Motorola MOSCAD fire station dispatch system conforms to NFPA1221 recommendations, including: dispatch acknowledgement from fire stations to both dispatcher and CAD backup operations, automatic logging of all dispatch operations, dual two-way radio and wireline dispatch circuits with automatic switchover operation, dual AC and battery power sources in fire station equipment and supervision of all communications media. The MOSCAD fire station dispatch can transmit a simultaneous broadcast command to every fire station. The dispatcher can start speaking within seconds of sending the automated command. All events are automatically logged with time and date to provide evidence of the system broadcast times and to which stations a message was sent. The system can be configured to provide real time monitoring of station conditions, automatically close fire station doors, and turn lights and appliances on and off. Alarms and sensors provide real-time feedback to the dispatchers. Because MOSCAD is a fixed data solution, the Motorola system allows high-speed access to data messages and a new level of automation to each company's equipment. MOSCAD can provide simultaneous communications with from 2 to 100 fire stations. And because MOSCAD is modular, it is expandable; new applications can be added to meet changing fire safety needs.

ADVANCED AQUA FOR EMD CASE REVIEW SOFTWARE.

The new features added to version 3.1 of Medical Priorities Dispatch System's Automated Quality Assurance software, AQUA, makes quality improvement easier and more effective, reducing the time and energy requirements of quality assurance, turning raw data into knowledge for better decisions, managing communications center risk, legitimizing EMD performance tracking, and increasing compliance to protocol. The system works in conjunction with MPDS' ProQA(tm) emergency medical dispatch software, which is available in stand-alone, network, CAD-integrated versions, and, coming soon, 9-1-1-phone system (IWS) integrated versions.

BUILD TO ORDER UPS FROM CLARY

While build-to-order has become the standard in the PC market, it is brand new to the UPS world. Clary Corporation introduces the CT (customizable technology) Series of Continuous Power Systems. Built to order according to the customer's needs, any combination of input and output types are available for the 5.25" rackmounted UPS. The customer selects the specifications of the system by picking from 16 categories of options. These include: output power, input voltage, input frequency, other input features, input connectors, output voltage, output frequency, output connectors, communications, software, operating systems, bypass options, accessory devices batteries, external battery boxes and environment. Unlike most other UPS systems, which cut in only when the power cuts out, Clary systems are operating full time, providing the cleanest available pure sinewave power. During a brownout or blackout, the internal batteries cut in, continuing the source of pure sinewave power, regardless of the outside conditions

AMERIPHONE MODEL 911-ITX

Ameriphone has developed the Model 911-ITX, currently the only product in the market that identifies and processes voice-carry-over (VCO) and hearing-carry-over (HCO) calls as stipulated by ADA regulations. The Model 911-ITX has a built-in automatic detector that quickly identifies an incoming call as VCO, HCO, TTY or ASCII by activating an appropriate LED indicator. The unified design approach (patent pending) eliminates call transfer errors and simplifies training procedures by automating many manual operations. Model 911-ITX saves money by being compatible with existing PSAP phone systems. The interfacing connection is done at the handset port of the PSAP communications equipment, therefore all calls are automatically archived on the PSAP's long-term tape recorder in compliance with ADA. The Model 911-ITX requires no additional equipment or tools, other than your existing PSAP system, and is easy to install and operate.

CROSS BAND RADIO SYSTEM FROM DANIELS

Daniels Electronics introduces a cross band repeater for the VHF low band. Consisting of a low band transmitter and receiver plus an additional transmitter and receiver, the cross band system allows interoperability between public safety agencies using different types of radio systems.

BEST POWER'S UPS SIZING SOFTWARE

The touch-screen display provides feature selection with a simple touch of a finger. The flexible system offers TLM (sequential tone line modules) to allow the operator site selection for transmission and DLM (dial-up access modules) which allow the operator to select a dial-up site for transmission. PLM (telephone line modules) answer or initiate a call on the PSTN.

PROTALK CV2 FROM BARNETT ENGINEERING

The ProTalk CV2 Cellular Alarm Reporting Unit from Barnett Engineering Ltd. Combines the versatility and portability of a 3 watt cellular telephone with the flexibility of an alarm reporting unit in one easy-to-install package. The CV2 ARU is compact in design, operates on all AMPS cellular systems and provides alarm reporting capabilites to unattended equipment at site locations that have cellular coverage but no telephone lines for communications. The CV2 utilizes user-recordable, high quality digitized voice messages, which can be recorded into the unit using a standard telephone set. The voice messages typically provide the site identification, the alarm condition, and request the called party to acknowledge the alarm message in order to halt the dialing process. The CV2 has 8 analog or digital alarm inputs, and 8 control outputs which can be used to operate fans, switches, sirens or other devices at the remote site, until operations personnel can travel to the site and perform permanent repairs or adjustments. Multiple levels of security within the CV2 restrict access to the unit, to interrogate the alarm(s) status, and to control the output relays.
