NENA Announces Brian Fontes as CEO

NENA is pleased to announce that Brian Fontes, Ph.D. has joined the organization as its new Chief Executive Officer. With experience in the non-profit world, the private sector, and within the federal government, Dr. Fontes brings to NENA the knowledge, leadership, and resources necessary to move the association forward and advance critical 9-1-1 and emergency communications issues. “I am honored to join NENA and become part of the 9-1-1 community, which plays a vital role in aiding the safety of lives and property,” Fontes said. “As we all know, in times of need, 9-1-1 telecommunicators are often the first voice of hope. This is why the 9-1-1 community must continue to have a strong and responsible voice in the development of public policy that affects the future of our service. I am confident that together we will advance NENA’s important work, and that of the 9-1-1 community at large, on behalf of the citizens who rely upon us to answer that important call.”

Custody Battle

The 7th Precinct Police station in Shirley, NY, took custody of a 14-foot Constricting Burmese Python last January 15th.  The incident began when a 35-year old resident of nearby Wading River, Long Island, NY, decided on a cold winter’s day to walk around Mastic town with his pet snake wrapped around his neck like a Dickie.  An ASPCA Officer spotted the two at a store along the Montauk Highway in Mastic and called police. The 7th PCT police arrived and soon arrested the serpent wearer for Failing to Protect the Public and Animal Cruelty.  The Conservation Department was also expected to press charges.  Seen in the photo are ASPCA and 7th Pct Officers placing the huge snake in a transport box to find it a better home.
